Once You Are Postpartum, You Are Always Postpartum
My mentor said this in one of her lectures. And it hit different. I mean, at the most basic level, you know that your life is different once you have a baby.
But you never stop being postpartum. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you had your last child, your life has shifted.
Before, maybe you were the worker bee, the social butterfly, the yoga enthusiast, the festival goer, the wifey, the best friend, the daughter, the sister.
After, you are still all those things AND a mother, a guide, a nurturer, an educator. As your children grow, their is a learning curve because each life stage presents its own challenges. It’s really a lifelong journey.
At first, it’s an overwhelming shift and we slowly learn to integrate ourselves into this new dynamic. We slowly find that all the do’s and don’ts may work (or not) for us and the way we want to live our lives.
We are forced to evaluate our values and our priorities. We are forced to confront the physical, emotional, and spiritual.
What a ride. What a privilege to live and embrace the postpartum new you.
This is where an OT in maternal wellness comes in. You don't have to do it alone. I am here to empower you: look at your roles, habits, treasured occupations and analyze how to best integrate all the best things of your life and make it work for you. I won't just address the physical ,even though it is important. I will work with you to make sure that the emotional, spiritual and all the things that make you feel like you come back to life during the lifelong transition through motherhood.
